How to report copyright violations on Tiktok

TikTok is a place for creativity, but sometimes people post videos, music, or images that belong to someone else without permission. If someone has used your work without your approval, you have the right to report it. We show you exactly how to report a copyright violation on TikTok.

What Is Copyright Infringement on TikTok?

Copyright infringement happens when someone uses your original work without your permission. This can include:

  • Your videos
  • Your photos
  • Your music
  • Your artwork
  • Your writing (like poems, articles, or lyrics)

If you created it, and someone else is using it without asking you, you can report it to TikTok and ask them to take it down. But before you report it, remember:

You must be the copyright owner or authorized to act for the owner. False reports can have legal consequences. So only report real violations!

How to Report a Copyright Violation on TikTok

TikTok handles copyright complaints seriously. You can claim copyright infringement directly via the app but they also provide a special form for you to fill out if you think your rights have been violated.

Report a Copyright Violation Directly Through the TikTok App

  1. Locate the Infringing Video:
Open the TikTok app and navigate to the video in question.

  2. Tap the "Share" button (arrow icon).

  3. Select "Report."
  4. Select Report Reason:
    Choose "Intellectual property infringement (Copyright)."

Report a Copyright Violation via Form

Before filling out the form, collect all important details:

  • A description of your original work (for example: "An original song recorded by me" or "A photo I took and published on my website.")
  • The link (URL) to your original content, if it’s published somewhere online.
  • The link (URL) to the TikTok video that is using your content without permission.
  • Proof of ownership, if available (this could be metadata, timestamps, original files, or publication dates).

To report a copyright violation without the App, you must use TikTok’s official copyright form. Here's what to do next:

    • My personal Tiktok account
    • A Tiktok account I legally represent
    • Outside of Tiktok
  7. Provide evidence of right & authorization by uploading certificates, license agreements, screenshots of being logged in the account and so on.
  8. Enter the link(s) to the Tiktok content you want to report
  9. Updload further material, that supports your report.
  10. Check the statements that:
    • you are in good faith,
    • the information you provide are accurate,
    • you aknowledge that Tiktok may forward your submitted information to the uploader of the content.
  11. Sign the form by entering your full legal name.

What Happens After You Submit a Copyright Report?

After you submit your report, TikTok may:

  • Remove the infringing content
  • Restrict the user who uploaded it
  • Contact you for more information if needed

If your report is successful, the video will no longer be visible on TikTok.

TikTok may also send a warning to the account that posted the stolen content. If someone repeatedly violates copyright laws, TikTok can ban their account.
